While most media focus on passenger cars, commercial vehicles often remain in the background. However, according to data from the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers, China's commercial vehicle sales last year surpassed 2.2 million units, outpacing the growth of passenger cars. **Space and Shape: Changan Star II Takes the Lead**
Unlike traditional passenger cars, mini-vehicles are primarily designed for carrying goods. Most buyers care more about cargo space than overall size. The Changan Star II, launched last year, is marketed as the “new space king.†It uses an MM (Minimum-Maximum) design concept, maximizing internal space while minimizing external dimensions. Its interior cargo space reaches 3.9 cubic meters, making it the largest in its class.
Visually, the Changan Star II is taller and longer than the Wuling Light. When measured, it offers nearly 0.7 cubic meters more space than the Wuling. The integrated rear door design makes loading and unloading easier compared to the traditional setup on the Wuling. While the Wuling Light features a foldable rear seat to increase space and improve rear visibility, its body width is slightly better, giving it a more balanced look.

For example, they lack power steering, have heavier steering wheels, and minimal suspension, leading to a rough ride. Noise levels are also higher, with idle noise reaching about 87 decibels.
Despite these limitations, manufacturers have made efforts to improve comfort. Adjustments to the driver’s seat, pedals, and steering wheel help reduce fatigue during long drives. The Changan Star II has a lower pedal position, but the Wuling Light offers smoother gear shifts and better acceleration. Technically, the Wuling Light has a lighter body, contributing to better power efficiency. The Changan Star II, however, sacrifices some stability for its larger frame.
