U.S. government to publish proposals for fuel economy standards
The U.S. government is set to unveil a new proposal aimed at raising fuel efficiency standards for vehicles from 2011 to 2015, with the goal of increasing average fuel economy to 35 miles per gallon by 2020. The announcement is expected to be made on April 22, according to a comprehensive foreign news report. Currently, new passenger cars are required to achieve an average of 27.5 mpg, while SUVs, trucks, and vans must meet a lower standard of 22.5 mpg.
