Outdoor Grilling with the A-Series

Choosing a Location

Since the A-Series grills are intended for outdoor use, it’s important to place them properly. Gas grills produce carbon monoxide, which can be dangerous if not properly ventilated. Never operate your A-Series grill indoors—this includes homes, garages, RVs, boats, or any enclosed area. Always place the grill at least 30 inches away from combustible materials and avoid high-traffic areas for safety and convenience.

Lighting Your Grill

Before lighting your grill, always inspect the hose or gas supply for signs of wear or damage. If there’s any abrasion or cuts, replace the hose immediately. Open the lid fully before lighting to prevent gas buildup and potential flare-ups. Follow these steps carefully:

1. Do not stand with your head over the grill when lighting the burner.
2. Open the lid and check the interior to make sure everything looks normal.
3. Turn the control knobs to the OFF position. Either knob can be used for lighting.
4. Turn the gas ON at the tank, then turn one knob to Medium and press the ignitor button gently. You should hear the click and see one burner ignite within four seconds. The second burner will light automatically when you turn the other knob to HI.

Once lit, ensure the flame is consistent and at the right heat level. It’s a good idea to watch the grill for a couple of minutes after lighting to catch any small leaks or spider fires early.

Grilling Tips

1. When using your new PGS grill for the first time, turn both burners to HI for 10–15 minutes to burn off any oils from the manufacturing process. Lightly oil the cooking grids before use with vegetable or safflower oil for better performance.
2. Burning the unit after each use isn’t necessary or recommended. However, preheating for 5–8 minutes before each session helps burn off grease and residue. After cooling, use a nylon pad to clean any stuck-on food.

Remember to lightly oil the cooking grid before each use for best results.

You can clean your stainless steel cooking grids with a brass wire brush. Make sure they’re washed thoroughly before using. Never put cooking grids, rock grates, or rocks into self-cleaning ovens.

Safety & the A-Series

At AEI, we prioritize your safety while enjoying the outdoors. Natural gas and propane are safe when handled correctly. Never mix them—using natural gas in a propane grill or vice versa is extremely dangerous. Also, never connect an unregulated gas cylinder or gas line directly to your grill.

Most homes with natural gas have a regulator near the meter. If you accidentally leave the grill valves on and open the tank valve, the excess flow device will activate and stop the gas flow. In this case, turn the grill valves OFF, wait two minutes, then slowly open the tank valve before turning the grill valves back ON. Always turn on the tank first, then the grill valves to avoid sudden pressure changes.
