National pickup sales announced the Great Wall still ranked first
According to the latest data from the National Pickup Truck Market Data and Information Federation, 11 registered pickup truck manufacturers reported sales of over 118,400 units in 2005 (excluding SUVs), marking a 36.5% increase compared to the same period in the previous year. Great Wall was the top seller with 36,000 units, followed closely by Jiangling with 22,000. This significant growth reflects a strong demand for pickup trucks across various sectors.
However, it's important to note that several unregistered companies, such as Shuguang, Wanfeng, Xinkai, Tianma, Dadi, and Panthers, are also active in the market but not included in the official statistics. These companies contributed an estimated additional 126,000 pure pickup truck sales annually, further highlighting the robustness of the industry.
Industry experts suggest that the growth rate of pickup trucks in 2005 was nearly 30 percentage points higher than in 2004. Despite rising oil prices, consumer preferences have shifted toward more fuel-efficient small-displacement vehicles. However, for many business owners and entrepreneurs, pickup trucks remain a versatile choice that can handle both passenger and cargo needs. The introduction of diesel models has also attracted cost-conscious buyers looking to reduce operating expenses.
Moreover, new brands like Great Wall Chai Shen, Gio, Dongfeng, and Beiqi have entered the market, bringing innovative designs and features. Aggressive marketing strategies from major manufacturers have further fueled the expansion of the pickup truck segment, ensuring continued growth and competition in the industry.
