Fuzhou installed 588 video surveillance probes, the rate of decline in the case

In Fuzhou, the police are not only human beings but also need rest. However, since last year, a special group of “policemen” have been continuously on duty in the streets of Fucheng, standing by the roadside, guarding community entrances, and even catching thieves. These individuals have not only violated regulations themselves but also helped the public security authorities capture over 10 criminal suspects. This is the first phase of the video surveillance system that has been successfully implemented in Fuzhou. Police now have hundreds of “eyes.” Not long ago, a police officer told reporters that they now have many “eyes” to rely on. At first, the reporter was confused, but after visiting the video surveillance system, it became clear how accurate this statement was. Since the launch of the “Fuzhou Fuzhou” project in 2004, Fuzhou has prioritized the development of a comprehensive video surveillance system to create a safer and more stable environment. The initiative focused on addressing recurring issues such as theft and burglary in residential areas. The city increased its financial investment and accelerated the construction process. So far, the first phase of the system has installed 588 cameras across 46 communities in Gulou, Taijiang, Cangshan, and Jin'an, with 26 police station monitoring platforms already operational. These cameras differ from traditional traffic monitoring systems. The images captured are as clear as a DVD, allowing the police to closely monitor various criminal activities. With the installation of an additional 1,000 cameras this year, the police will have even greater coverage and visibility. Sitting in front of a computer screen, officers can now catch thieves in real time. For example, one day, a police officer received a call: “Officer Chen, someone is parking illegally on Jintai Road. Please go check it out.” Within moments, the officer arrived and dealt with the violation. This scene was witnessed by the reporter at the Dong Street Police Station’s monitoring room. The police explained that they are pioneers in implementing the city's video surveillance system. Through these cameras, they can not only spot violations but also detect and catch criminals. On the evening of July 19, two suspicious men appeared on the monitor at the Dongjie Police Station. The on-duty officers immediately alerted nearby patrol units, who intercepted the suspects. The two men confessed they were planning to steal bicycles. When asked why the patrol officers knew what to do, the police simply smiled and said, “That’s the power of the video surveillance system.” According to reports, the video surveillance system offers features like rapid capture, real-time recording, round-the-clock monitoring, pre-set management, and alarm linkage. It continuously monitors high-risk areas and provides strong evidence for solving cases. Most importantly, it acts as a “policeman” that never rests, watching every corner of the city and making it difficult for criminals to hide. Since the first phase of the system was launched, it has proven effective. According to early warning data from the Municipal Public Security Bureau, the crime rate in areas covered by the cameras has dropped significantly, showing the growing impact of the video surveillance system.
