A man was rescued after being trapped up to his waist in a grain bin on Thursday afternoon at Minooka Grain, Lumber & Supply Co., located on West Mondamin Street. The incident occurred around 12:45 p.m., and emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Firefighters from approximately 20 departments worked together to free the man, who remained conscious and breathing throughout the operation. A Vac-Con vacuum truck was used to remove grain around the victim, helping to create space for rescuers. The effort took several hours, and the man was finally freed just before 4 p.m. He reportedly felt well and showed no signs of serious injury.

According to the National Agricultural Safety Database, grain can be extremely dangerous—just two or three seconds is all it takes for someone to become trapped, and within 10 seconds, they can be completely submerged. This highlights the urgency of such rescues and the importance of safety protocols in agricultural settings.
