PCBWay Plug-In for KiCad

Send Your PCB Layout to PCBWay with One Click

Ever wondered if, after finishing your design in KiCad, you could place an order on PCBWay with just a single click? Well, that’s now a reality — and it’s not an April Fools’ joke.

Thanks to the new PCBWay plugin for KiCad, you can now streamline your workflow and send your project directly to production. All you need to do is click the PCBWay Plug-in button, and we’ll automatically export all necessary files from your project (make sure you’ve installed the latest version of the plugin, released on July 11, 2024).

Here’s what gets exported:

• Gerber files in the correct format for manufacturing
• IPC-Netlist file
• BOM file containing all component details
• Pick and Place file for assembly

Once the files are uploaded, simply click “Save to Cart” to place your order instantly — usually within just a few seconds. Our engineers will review your files before starting the production process to ensure everything is set for success.

Note: We've updated the plugin for KiCad 8, allowing you to place assembly orders directly. However, we need the "Manufacture Part Number" for components. Make sure you run "Update Board from Schematic" and have the latest plugin installed.



Install the Plugin via Official KiCad Repositories

To get started, open the "Plugin and Content Manager" from the main menu in KiCad and install the "PCBWay Plug-in for KiCad" from the list of available plugins.

Manual Installation Instructions

If you prefer, you can download the latest ZIP file from our GitHub page. Then, go to the "Plugin and Content Manager" in KiCad and install the ZIP file using the "Install from File" option.

About BOM Files

We can extract all component information from your design (make sure the latest plugin is installed). To speed up the quotation process, we require the following details:

• Designator (required)
• Quantity (required)
• MPN / Part Number (required)
• Package / Footprint (required)
• Manufacturer (optional)
• Description / Value (optional)

You can easily add these properties to your schematic as shown in the image below:
