From the MABAS Illinois Facebook page: We are deeply saddened to share this update: Firefighter/Paramedic Paul Miller’s condition remains unchanged—he is still on life support—and medical professionals have confirmed that recovery is no longer possible. In accordance with Paul’s own wishes, his family has made the difficult decision to withdraw life support. In keeping with Paul’s selfless spirit and long-held desire to help others, his family has chosen to donate his organs so that others may live and be inspired by his legacy. The donation process is expected to take between 36 to 72 hours, as it involves several important steps including matching, coordination, and preparation. On Tuesday, April 23rd at 4:00 PM, a special flag ceremony will be held at the main hospital flagpole of Advocate Condell Medical Center, located at 801 S. Milwaukee Ave in Libertyville. A “Gift of Hope†flag will be raised to honor Paul’s incredible gift of life. The ceremony will be led by Chaplain David Haley from the Des Plaines Fire Department, and all available personnel are encouraged to attend. Please note that the organ donation process can be unpredictable, and the timeline for matching and preparing recipients is still being finalized. This process is expected to take more than 24 hours from now (1:00 PM on Tuesday). We will provide updates as more information becomes available. Sincerely,
Alan Wax, Fire Chief, Des Plaines Fire Department
Tony Huemann, Fire Chief, McHenry Township Fire Protection District From the Des Plaines Professional Firefighters Association IAFF Local 4211: Today, we ask you to continue to keep Paul and his family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly tough time. His courage, dedication, and generosity will never be forgotten. We are heartbroken, but we stand together in support of his family and in tribute to a true hero. Paul's story is one of service, sacrifice, and compassion. As we move forward, we will remember him not just for what he did, but for who he was. If you're able, consider donating blood or registering as an organ donor in his name. Every act of kindness keeps his spirit alive.
