Excerpts from Chicago.cbslocal.com: Emergency responders are still on the scene in Morris, Illinois, working to contain a large industrial fire involving lithium-ion batteries. The incident, which began on Tuesday, has led to a mandatory evacuation of parts of the city for 24 hours due to the hazardous nature of the fire. The fire broke out at around 11:42 a.m. at the old Federal Paper Board building on East Benton Street, which was being used as a storage facility for a massive quantity of lithium batteries. According to Superior Battery, the company currently occupying the site, there were approximately 80 to 100 tons of batteries stored there. Because of the risk posed by lithium fires—especially the toxic smoke they produce—authorities ordered an evacuation of the southeast side of Morris. The affected area stretches from Washington Street east to Evergreen Cemetery (Cemetery Road), and west to Route 47. The northern boundary is the railroad tracks, and the southern edge is the river. Lithium fires cannot be extinguished with water, as the metal reacts violently when exposed to moisture, potentially causing explosions. As a result, firefighters have no choice but to let the fire burn while keeping it contained within the structure. Chief Tracey Steffes of the Morris Fire Department stated that the building is holding up well, preventing explosions from escaping outside. Over 130 firefighters and 30 units were deployed to the scene. In addition, the Illinois National Guard has been called in to assist. A team of 12 service members, along with five trucks and three trailers equipped with chemical monitoring tools, is en route from Bartonville. Their role will be to assess air quality and environmental conditions to determine when it's safe for residents to return. Meanwhile, the American Red Cross has sent volunteers to support the emergency crews, providing food and water to more than 300 personnel on the ground. This ongoing situation highlights the dangers associated with storing large quantities of lithium batteries and the complex challenges faced by first responders in such emergencies. Stainless Steel Flux Cored Wire
Because toughness is better than 410, so often used to weld more demanding turbine rotor, and other wear-resistant & corrosion-resistant occasions. Because of the addition of Ni or Mo, the corrosion resistance is more stable, the hardness and high temperature wear resistance are improved, and the cold cracks are effectively prevented at the same time. The flux-cored wire has excellent welding performance, smooth wire feeding, stable arc, beautiful forming, very little spatter, stable mechanical properties of deposited metal, high qualified rate of X-Ray. FM410NiMoT1-1 is stainless steel Flux Cored Wire, suitable for full position welding.
