Brookfield 2-11 on 7-12-11
This evening, Drew Gresik captured some compelling images and provided a detailed account of a MABAS 2nd Alarm fire in Brookfield. The incident occurred in the 3500 block of Rosemear, where a 2-story ordinary structure caught fire in its garage. Initially reported as showing signs of fire, the blaze rapidly escalated, completely consuming the garage and spreading to the main residence, prompting an upgrade to a 2-alarm status.
Recognizing the severity of the situation, the fire was escalated further to a full MABAS Division 10 response, drawing additional support from neighboring divisions, including MABAS Divisions 11, 20, and 21. Multiple fire companies were dispatched, with firefighters stretching four lines and engaging in intensive operations to control the inferno. The rapid spread of the flames made it a challenging and demanding operation for all involved.
Attached are several photographs taken by Drew Gresik, offering a glimpse into the intense firefighting efforts. In one image, the remnants of the roof of the house are ablaze, highlighting the intensity of the fire. Another captures the gutted garage, showcasing the extent of the damage as the flames engulfed the building. Additional photos depict various apparatus, such as Brookfield Engine 412 positioned nearby, Lagrange Park Engine 1211 (an HME/Smeal), Riverside Truck 1629 (a low-profile Seagrave quint), and Tri-State Tower 529 (a 2010 Spartan/Smeal). These vehicles were strategically staged down the block, contributing to the coordinated response.
The scene was bustling with activity, with multiple pieces of equipment lining the streets for over a block, as seen in another photograph. This level of mobilization underscores the collaborative effort required to manage such a significant fire. Drew has more photos available [here], providing further insight into the scale and complexity of the event.
This fire not only tested the capabilities of the Brookfield Fire Department but also highlighted the importance of mutual aid agreements within the MABAS system. It serves as a reminder of the dedication and skill of firefighters who work tirelessly to protect our communities.
