Lakemoor apartment fire goes to 3 alarms

Last night around 11 PM, The Fox Lake Fire Department received emergency calls about a fire in an apartment building located on the 500 block of Autumn Boulevard in Lakemoor. By the time they arrived, just four minutes after receiving the call, flames were already visible through the roof of the three-story, lightweight construction building. Tragically, a structural collapse occurred shortly afterward. This incident quickly escalated into a critical situation, prompting a 3-11 response for tanker support and a Box Alarm for the structural collapse. At least 19 different fire departments were present on the scene, each contributing their resources and expertise. As firefighters worked tirelessly to contain the blaze, multiple tower ladders were deployed, including those from Fox Lake, McHenry Township, Wauconda, and Round Lake. Ground-level master streams and numerous handlines were also brought into action to combat the intense fire. One of the most notable moments during the firefighting efforts involved the Fox Lake Tower Ladder, which is equipped with a Spartan/3D/Nova Quintech system. At one point, the ladder's articulating jib extended over the building to provide additional coverage as the fire raged on. Meanwhile, McHenry Township sent out four units—engine, tower, tanker, and squad—to assist. Round Lake dispatched an engine, tower, and tanker, while Lake Villa contributed an engine, tanker, and ambulance. Grayslake had an engine and tanker on-site, and Lake Bluff sent an engine, likely traveling from one of the furthest distances. Some interesting apparatus highlights from the incident included several departments showcasing their newly acquired equipment. Both Countryside and Grayslake brought their latest apparatus to the scene. Many of the vehicles present featured advanced lighting solutions such as Nightscan or Command Light towers, including engines from Antioch, Grayslake, and Round Lake, along with squads from Fox Lake and Barrington. Photographer Larry Shapiro captured stunning images of the event, highlighting various pieces of firefighting equipment. One photograph features Antioch’s American LaFrance/Alexis engine illuminated by a Nightscan system, casting a bright glow over the area. Another image showcases Fox Lake’s squad vehicle equipped with dual light towers capable of illuminating even the largest scenes. Additionally, there’s a shot of Countryside’s new tanker, which was put into service this summer, alongside Round Lake’s engine equipped with a Command Light tower mounted on its cab roof. Other departments that played crucial roles included Lake Villa, which sent three units, and Mundelein, which also contributed significant resources. Despite these efforts, some departments remain unrepresented on the official website tracking the incident, such as Antioch, Barrington, Grayslake, and others. For those interested in more visual documentation, Larry Shapiro has compiled a comprehensive gallery of photographs from the fire, available for viewing [here]. As the community continues to recover, it’s clear that the collective efforts of all participating fire departments were instrumental in managing this challenging situation.
