Eric Kositzki, a Lake Forest firefighter, said the fire started just after midnight and wasn’t fully extinguished until around 4:30 a.m. The house was declared a total loss, according to officials. Fire Department Battalion Chief Eric Montanello said they don’t suspect foul play but are still investigating the cause. Damage estimates are currently being assessed, with officials predicting at least $1 million in losses. The full extent of the damage may take days to determine. The fire took over an hour to bring under control, with the roof and second floor fully engulfed. Officials are still working to determine the exact cause of the fire. According to Lake County records, the home was valued at about $1.9 million and sold for more than $2 million in 2008.
