Fox River Grove FPD updates
The pages for the Fox River Grove Fire Protection District within MABAS Division 5 have recently been refreshed to feature their latest addition—a brand-new Dive Rescue Unit—as well as an updated photo of their fire station.
This new ambulance carries a unique identifier, the number 657, which is encircled by a halo and angel wings. It’s a touching tribute to the seven children who tragically lost their lives back in 1995 when a school bus collided with a commuter train just half a block away from the station at a railway crossing. The names of those children—Jeffrey J. Clark, Susanna Guzman, Michael B. Hoffman, Stephanie Fulham, Joseph A. Kalte, Shawn P. Robinson, and Tiffany Schneider—are forever remembered through this meaningful number.
In most cases across McHenry County, ambulances bear a unit number that reflects the department and its specific vehicle number. Typically, these numbers don’t climb too high because few departments have more than three stations. However, the number 657 stands out due to its deep connection to the community's history. The angelic imagery associated with it symbolizes hope and remembrance for those young lives cut short.
For reference, there’s also a striking image showcasing the Dive Rescue Unit, highlighting its readiness to respond to emergencies. Another photograph captures the essence of the station, providing a glimpse into the daily operations of the dedicated firefighters who serve this area. These updates not only celebrate modern advancements but also honor the past, ensuring that the sacrifices made decades ago remain acknowledged and respected.
