Another department from Lake County, part of MABAS Division 4, has recently been added to the site. Previously known as the Bonnie Brook Fire Protection District, the organization officially rebranded to the Beach Park Fire Department in November 2002. This change was made to better reflect their expanded service area and capabilities. The department now covers approximately 14 square miles in northeast Lake County, including unincorporated regions and the town of Beach Park. However, it does not currently provide full coverage for the entire town, as the Winthrop Harbor Fire Department is responsible for a portion of Beach Park. As reported in the Beach Park Village Link Newsletter during the winter of 2003: The New Beach Park Fire Department During the final months of 2002, there were several positive developments in fire protection services for our village. Formerly called the “Bonnie Brook Fire Protection District,†the name was officially changed to the “Beach Park Fire Department†(BPFD) last November to more accurately represent the department’s scope of operations and service areas. The Beach Park Fire Department maintains a diverse fleet of equipment, including units from Alexis, Pierce, Seagrave, Medtec, and Osage. Their newest apparatus is Engine 1222, a 2008 Seagrave Maurauder II engine. Meanwhile, Engine 1212, a 2002 HME/Alexis model, is currently undergoing repairs at the manufacturer’s facility. Engine 1211 prior to the creation of the Beach Park FD was lettered for the Bonnie Brook FPD. Larry Shapiro photo Bonnie Brook FPD Engine 1211 shortly after being delivered by Pierce in 1993. Originally an existing home with an attached garage, the space was renovated to include a lobby, office, and two-bay apparatus bays. Today, the station operates with a crew of two or three personnel, functioning as a jump company that responds with either an engine or ambulance depending on the call type.
