Barrington Box Alarm 11-23-11

This evening around 8 PM, the Barrington Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at 340 Weatherstone Road. It was a neighbor who noticed flames near the garage and alerted the authorities. By the time the first emergency vehicles arrived, they were faced with intense fire engulfing the three-car garage and spreading upward toward the roof, threatening the main house. Recognizing the severity, a Box Alarm was quickly called in, bringing additional resources, including tanker trucks, to the area—a non-hydranted neighborhood close to Lake-Cook and Ela Roads. Firefighters worked swiftly to contain the blaze, which had already spread to the attic of the garage and parts of the second-floor attic. Thanks to their efforts, the fire was stopped before it could cause further damage to the home. Interestingly, both cars inside the garage sustained minimal damage. The initial response team positioned one of Barrington’s engines in the driveway, drawing water from another engine stationed in front of the house. A portable tank was also deployed to ensure an uninterrupted water supply for firefighting operations. Larry Shapiro arrived at the scene shortly after the fire had been extinguished. He captured several photographs documenting the aftermath, offering a glimpse into the extent of the damage. Their efforts highlight the collaborative nature of firefighting operations during emergencies. ![Firefighters from Carpentersville Engine 942 work on a spot fire at the peak of the garage roof. This visual underscores the rapid progression of the blaze and the importance of swift intervention. ![The fire originated outside the garage and burned through the roof creating a trench. It’s heartening to see communities come together, leveraging resources and expertise, to protect homes and lives.
