CFD 3-11 (part 2)
Steve Redick captured a series of powerful images from the 3-11 incident on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago, which was previously mentioned HERE. The fire involved a response code 6-3-1, including one of Chicago’s foam units that deployed high-expansion foam into the building to help control the blaze. Although Steve arrived later than he would have preferred, he managed to document numerous key moments during the active firefighting operation.
One of the standout shots shows Engine 35's deck gun working from the rear of the building as flames vented through the roof. Another image features Tower 10 positioned in an alley alongside Engine 35, safely deploying its elevated master stream above utility wires. Engine 56 was stationed at a hydrant near Lincoln and Southport, while Engine 112 was supplying multiple hand lines, helping to manage water flow to the sewers.
Foam unit 6-3-1 was seen in action, with trucks 28 and 44 nearby. Squad 1’s 55-Snorkel was also in use, creating an elevated stream in sector 1. Foam was spread across the street, with the chute visible in the background. Engine 55 was located in sector 1, providing water to Tower 21, while Engine 106 was pumping to companies further down the street.
An aerial view of Lincoln Avenue reveals a massive column of smoke rising from a carpet store down the block. The photo also includes the spare command van in the distance. A full gallery of Steve’s photos and a video from the incident are available HERE for those interested in seeing more of the scene.
