The movement of the movable jaw is achieved by means of a connecting rod and a thrust plate mechanism. When the motor drives the eccentric shaft to rotate through the pulley, the link is made to move. The up and down movement of the connecting rod drives the thrust plate to move. As the motion of the thrust plate constantly changes the angle of inclination, the movable jaws reciprocate around the suspension axis, thereby breaking the ore. When the moving jaw moves forward, the horizontal pull rod balances the inertial force generated by the moving jaw and the thrust plate through the spring 10, so that the moving jaw and the thrust plate are tightly combined and are not separated. When the moving jaws retreat, the spring can assist.

Because the jaw crusher works intermittently, that is, there is a working stroke and an idle stroke, the load of the motor is extremely uneven. In order to make the load uniform, it is necessary to store the energy of the idling stroke when the moving jaw moves backward (away from the fixed jaw) so that the energy is completely released during the working stroke (breaking of the ore). Using the principle of inertia, a flywheel can be installed at each end of the eccentric shaft to achieve this goal. In order to simplify the structure of the machine, one of the flywheels is usually used as a pulley for transmitting power. For a large jaw crusher driven by two electric motors, the two flywheels are all made into a pulley, that is, the pulley also acts as a flywheel.

The eccentric shaft or the main shaft is an important part of the crusher. The suspension shaft of the simple jaw-type jaw crusher is also called the mandrel. The eccentric shaft is the main part that drives the connecting rod to move up and down. Because they are subjected to a large crushing force during operation, they are generally made of high-quality alloy steel. According to the state of resources in China, the eccentric shaft of the large jaw crusher is suitable for alloy steels such as manganese molybdenum vanadium , manganese molybdenum boron and chromium molybdenum. The thrust plate, also known as the bracket, is both a part that transmits motion to the moving jawper and a safety device for the crusher. The thrust plate is subjected to pressure during work. It is generally cast in cast iron, or cast in two pieces, and then joined by rivets or bolts. Both ends of the thrust plate (elbows) wear most severely.
