Thornton is on the site now

Karl Klotz has shared some great photos and details about the Thornton Fire Department. This is another agency within MABAS Division 24, operating out of a single station that covers just 2.4 square miles. In addition to a full-time chief, the department depends on 30 part-time members to manage two Osage ambulances, two fire engines, one 50-foot TeleSqurt, one rescue unit, and a brush truck. What makes their fleet unique is the variety of manufacturers involved. They have one engine from Fire Max, one from Custom Fire, one from Hackney, and one from Pierreville, a Canadian manufacturer. The main engine runs on an International chassis, while the rescue unit uses a Ford F800. Another engine features an early Spartan Gladiator cab and chassis, and the TeleSqurt is built on an HME 1871 chassis. Most of the apparatus is painted red, but Truck 747 stands out with its teal green color. According to Karl, there are different stories behind why this particular engine was painted that way. One popular tale suggests it was the result of a contest involving local schoolchildren in the mid-1990s. We’re curious if that’s the real reason or if there's another explanation. If you have any insight into this, we’d love to hear from you. Let us know in the comments!
