The end of the Beijing International Auto Show on the 16th is the end and the prelude
The Grand Beijing Auto Show has left a lasting impression on the public's mind, while the Shanghai Auto Show for next year has already captured global attention with an impressive opening. From north to south, over the years, auto shows have paved the way for China’s automotive industry to grow and thrive. As one chapter closes and another begins, these events have vividly illustrated how cars have transitioned from luxury items to common household necessities in China. From Greater China to the world stage, they have witnessed the shifting center of global car manufacturing. The highlights of the show—renowned brands, bustling information exchanges, dazzling car displays, and the prestige of top automakers—have all contributed to a vibrant atmosphere, signaling the peak of the industry.
The goddess of the auto show is pure and innocent. When she steps into the spotlight, we are already looking forward to the next edition of the China Auto Show. The world’s leading car manufacturers are gathering once again. The big screen will light up, and the best moments will be reserved for the future.
In 2005, the Shanghai International Auto Show marked a significant milestone, following the first Beijing Auto Show in Asia. Just after the 2004 Beijing Auto Show concluded, the 2005 Shanghai event announced its plans. On June 11, the organizers held a press conference at the Great Wall Hotel in Beijing, officially confirming that the 11th Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition would take place from April 22 to 28, 2005, at the Shanghai New International Expo Center. The scale of the event was expected to reach new heights, aiming to become the premier auto show in Asia.
Since 1985, Shanghai has hosted ten successful international auto shows. The 11th edition will mark a major leap forward, featuring seven new indoor exhibition halls and outdoor spaces. The total exhibition area will expand to 120,000 square meters, a 50% increase compared to previous editions. Notably, many multinational automotive groups have placed great importance on the 2005 Shanghai Auto Show, aligning their participation with global standards. Some companies are investing as much as they do in the world’s top five auto shows.
Domestic automakers are also making strong commitments to the event, using it as a key platform for brand promotion. To enhance the visitor experience, the organizers have introduced several new service initiatives. April 22 will be designated as media day, followed by professional visitors on April 23–24, and the general public from April 25 to 28. For those exhibiting outdoors due to space limitations, advanced booth designs and improved ventilation systems will ensure visibility and effectiveness. Additional rest areas, improved dining options, and better transportation services are also being planned.
SAIC Motor established its northern base at the Beijing Auto Show, marking a strategic move to expand its presence in the region. Meanwhile, General Motors and SAIC announced a $3 billion investment plan to boost their operations in China. Volkswagen secured a major win by becoming the official partner for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, further strengthening its position in the Chinese market. These developments highlight the growing influence and competition within the Chinese automotive industry, setting the stage for exciting advancements in the years ahead.
