The gallery showcases a variety of vintage rigs, including Darley and E-ONE models, as well as a classic custom Pirsch fire truck that stands out as a unique piece of firefighting history.
One of their current engines was an emergency purchase made in 2004 after a tragic accident. The original 2002 HME/Darley engine was destroyed in a collision with a Northlake engine on April 27, 2004, while both were responding to an emergency call. The crash claimed the life of Jeffrey Bergstrom, a part-time firefighter and paramedic for Stone Park Fire Department. Bergstrom also served with Ambulance Company 44 of the Chicago Fire Department.
The Illinois Fire Service Institute Firefighter Record provides a detailed summary of the incident, including photos from the scene. As noted in the report:
"In addition to serving as a part-time firefighter and paramedic for the Stone Park Fire Department, Bergstrom was also a paramedic for Ambulance Company 44 of the Chicago Fire Department. Firefighters and paramedics from both departments joined firefighters from around the country in paying tribute to Bergstrom during a funeral procession through several Chicago suburbs and at a memorial service in Hillside, Illinois."
