MAN's new engine "improved way"

MAN Diesel & Turbo has recently introduced "Approved Methods" for its various engines to retrofit engines for shipowners to meet IMO pollution emission limits. It is reported that IMO and some port management authorities and flag-flag countries are actively promoting pollution emission standards and limiting the pollution emissions of “old-fashioned” existing fleets.

Thomas Knudsen, Senior Vice President of Low Speed Machines at MAN Diesel & Turbo, stated, "The improved approach we have introduced requires the use of MAN engine owners for model modifications to meet IMO's Tier-I requirements. These modifications include the installation of modern, Sliding fuel valves and fuel injection nozzles significantly reduce exhaust emissions."

MAN Diesel & Turbo selected three MAN engines as the first engines of the project and conducted extensive testing and documentation with authorized manufacturers. The MAN S70MC engine has been the first to be modified. According to analysis, the improvement of the three models will bring about 800 engine upgrades in the next few years, which will reduce 60,000 tons of nitrogen oxide emissions per year, and at the same time reduce emissions such as carbon monoxide, and will not increase. Fuel oil consumption, cleaner operation, lower maintenance, and reduced load operation can also reduce visible smoke.
