Fatal fire in Huntley

The Huntley Fire Protection District responded to a second-alarm fire at an apartment complex on Sunday, which tragically resulted in the death of a resident. Jacobs, a 47-year-old man, was found deceased after a fire broke out in his first-floor apartment at the Woodcreek Apartments, located at 11702 Woodcreek Drive in Huntley. Longtime friend Randy Albrecht, who lives in Lake in the Hills, reflected on Jacobs' life and the fear he had carried for years — that his death might come suddenly, leaving him unable to escape. Albrecht stood outside the burned-out building on Sunday, mourning the loss of his 47-year-old friend, whose life was cut short by the early morning blaze. The fire started in Jacobs’ unit and quickly spread to the second and third floors, affecting multiple families in the six-unit building. Huntley firefighters arrived at 6:12 a.m. and were joined by 15 other departments from neighboring areas to help control the flames. One firefighter sustained a minor injury and was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin, where he received treatment and was later released.
