CFD 3-11 (part 2)
Steve Redick captured a series of powerful images from the 3-11 incident that took place on Lincoln Avenue in Chicago yesterday. The fire, which was reported here, involved a significant response, including a foam unit (6-3-1) that deployed high-expansion foam into the building to help control the blaze. Although Steve arrived later than he would have preferred, he still managed to document key moments during the active suppression efforts.
One of the standout images shows Engine 35's deck gun in action at the rear of the building as flames vented through the roof. Another shot features Tower 10 positioned in an alley with Engine 35, safely deploying its elevated master stream above utility wires. Engine 56 was stationed at a hydrant near Lincoln and Southport, while Engine 112 worked to maintain water flow in the street to prevent flooding.
Firefighters from Squad 1 used their 55-Snorkel to deliver an elevated stream, with the area around the curb and sidewalk covered in foam. Foam Unit 6-3-1 was seen actively pumping foam into the structure, and Engine 55 supplied water to Tower 21 in sector 1. An aerial view of Lincoln Avenue revealed a massive column of smoke rising from a carpet store, with Engine 106 working to support other units further down the street.
