Steel Anchor are critical components used to secure refractory linings, preforms, or fiber mats to the furnace shell or steel structure. These anchors play a vital role in maintaining the position of the lining under various stresses such as static loads, thermal expansion, mechanical vibrations, and rotation. They help prevent material collapse during the initial stages of construction and heating, while also ensuring even shrinkage and minimizing the formation of large, concentrated cracks in the refractory layer.
Most steel anchors are used in integral linings like castable, plastic, or sprayed refractories. Although they are also used in brick linings, their application is less common. Metal anchors are particularly useful for supporting thinner or insulated linings, such as those found in chimneys, petrochemical catalytic cracking reactors (often using tortoise mesh anchors), spray gun linings, and the impregnation pipes in DH and RH vacuum degassers. They are typically applied in areas where the long-term operating temperature is below 1200°C, or where short-term temperatures may exceed this threshold.
Ceramic anchors, on the other hand, are ideal for thicker integral linings (over 200mm) and offer several advantages:
1. They can withstand higher service temperatures, often used in kiln linings that operate above 1200°C for extended periods.
2. They resist erosion and corrosion from harsh environments.
3. They extend to the working surface, reducing the risk of flaking in the overall lining.
4. Compared to metal anchors, ceramic anchors have a larger contact area with the refractory material, providing better support.
5. Their thermal expansion coefficient closely matches that of the refractory material, helping to prevent cracking or spalling caused by thermal mismatch.
Whether metal or ceramic, anchors are essential for ensuring the durability and performance of refractory systems in high-temperature industrial applications.
