Ghosn: Renault's Nissan launches new strategy next year will be more radical

2010 was a year of rapid growth for Renault-Nissan. Renault achieved the best growth performance in Europe and Nissan in Asia and North America over the past two years, gradually emerging from the financial crisis. Reynolds-Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn said that in February 2011, the Renault-Nissan Alliance will launch a new long-term strategic plan, including radical plans such as sales volume increase, quality improvement and profit increase.

Cross-brand cooperation more resources Reporter: The economic crisis of the past two years has experienced a painful process of production cuts for automakers. Has Renault-Nissan's performance rebounded in 2010?

Ghosn: 2010 will be a record year for Renault-Nissan, which will sell more than 7 million cars. After experiencing the recessions of 2008 and 2009, the Union ushered in a beautiful Jedi counterattack. At the same time, it also brought international cooperation to new heights, including cooperation with GM and Daimler in Germany.

Reporter: To what extent has the cooperation with GM progressed? In which areas will the two parties use resources each other?

Ghosn: We will have many cooperation projects with GM. During the crisis, US President Barack Obama’s car advisor, Steve Ratner, met with me. I suggested to him that he should pay attention to the cooperation between Renault-Nissan and GM, and maintain an open posture with GM. If they are interested in this matter, they will come to us. But I want to reiterate again: This is an opportunity, not an obligation, for Renault-Nissan. We do not have scale issues.

Reporter: Has the cooperation with Daimler entered the substantive stage?

Ghosn: Compared with Daimler's cooperation, it is more clear, Renault-Nissan's superior technology in small cars will be grafted to Daimler's Smart and Mercedes-Benz brands, and in the row In terms of engines, Mercedes-Benz will share with Nissan and Infiniti. The Reynolds-Nissan Alliance has 100 times more websites than Daimler, which is why it has achieved our achievements today.

Reporter: What will be planned in 2011?

Ghosn: In February 2011, we will start a new strategic plan that will be more radical than any of the previous plans, including sales volume increase, quality improvement, and profit increase. The most interesting aspect of this plan is the section on electric vehicles and low-carbon-emission vehicles.

The current plan for implementation is in the period of 2006-2009, but the new plan for next year will be more forward-looking. This time the idea is to provide more prospects for the company in a longer period of time so that the company's employees do not rigidly adhere to the short-term. Digitize your goals and broaden your horizons.

Vow to do the electric car boss reporter: In the Renault booth, Renault put out four sets of pure electric vehicles in mass production, why do you think the future direction of new energy development is pure electric?

Ghosn: I think that electric cars are an irreversible development trend and they will make great achievements. From a brand image point of view, today people think of Toyota when they think of "hybrid cars." Tomorrow or later, when people think of "electric cars," they think of the Renault-Nissan alliance. Four years ago, Renault-Nissan had already placed a 4 billion euro bet on electric cars, and today this figure has been raised to 6 billion euros.

Reporter: What do you think of the prospects of China's development of electric vehicles? What are the problems that need to be solved most?

Ghosn: We have promised to introduce pure electric vehicles into China in 2011 and we are actively promoting it with the Wuhan Municipal Government. But to reach the scale of mass production, we need to promote electric vehicles to more cities. In addition to providing financing support and consumer car subsidies, the government must also increase its support for infrastructure.

Reporter: China is already the world's largest auto market. What kind of action will Renault-Nissan have in the future further improve its performance?

Ghosn: As the world's largest auto market, Renault-Nissan has undoubtedly put China at the center of its strategy. The huge market capacity not only gives the Renault-Nissan electric car project the most basic amount of guarantee, but also becomes an important position for the Auto Union to increase its performance equivalent.
