Chicago 3-11 Alarm fire, August 27, 2014 (part 1)

Chicago was called to a reported fire at a three-story building, with commercial spaces on the ground floor and vacant upper levels. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered heavy flames in the basement and immediately requested the high-expansion foam unit. Before deploying it, all units were ordered to retreat from the building, and the operation shifted to a defensive strategy. A 2-11 alarm was initially called, followed shortly by a 3-11. Tower ladders, Squad 5A (Snorkel), the reserve Snorkel (661), and one of the turret wagons (676) were dispatched to the scene. Multiple hand lines and multi-versal teams were also actively engaged in the firefighting effort. Several of our contributors were present at the scene, and more detailed posts with photos and videos will be coming soon. Stay tuned for updates as the situation develops. From CFD Media:
