Metal forging is the process in which metals are formed and shaped using compressive forces. The forces are delivered using hammering, pressing, or rolling. There are a number of forging processes – cold forging, warm forging, and hot forging – which are classified by the temperature of the metal being worked with. Overall, the forging process results in a strong and durable product that is well-suited to heavy duty applications where toughness, strength, and resistance to damage are essential.

As one of the main suppliers of West Second Line, Baoji Steel Pipe Company and all its member companies started trial production of the X80 steel-grade, large-diameter, thick-wall spiral submerged arc welded steel pipe for the pipeline in September 2007. The company has developed X80 large-wall coils and large-diameter spiral welded tubes, as well as new fluorine-based sintered fluxes and high-strength, high-toughness welding wires with independent intellectual property rights. These products have not only been granted national invention patents, but also obtained national key new product certificates.
The company has achieved good results in seven consecutive months of production, corrosion, and shipment month records. It has also increased the welding speed from 1.3 meters per minute to 1.75 meters by optimizing welding process parameters. The production efficiency has increased by more than 30%, and at least 2.5 kilometers of high-quality steel pipes have been provided to the construction site every day, alleviating the tightness of the construction pipelines in the West Second Line.
